The farmhouse at Blinsham

Restoring the Land,
Re-storying the Farm

Blinsham is being shaped into a living celebration of farming, food, community and nature — a family-run estate full of exciting ideas, hopeful expectation and community spirit. We are sharing our story and hope you will join us as our adventure unfolds in the coming 12 months.

A note from the farm

Blinsham is a centuries-old estate on the River Torridge in North Devon — being sensitively restored. We are also a regenerative farm producing nutrient-rich food from living soils, reconnecting land and farmer with people and community. Our model blends farming, food, and hospitality—creating a place people don’t just buy from, but connect with. From pasture-raised livestock to hospitality and hyper-local seasonal food experiences, Blinsham is a working example of a different food future—transparent, place-based, and rooted in health.

Land

Regenerative by nature.

A landscape farmed for food and for nature — together. Our pasture, market garden, woodland, orchards and water meadows bring healthy diversity. We are planning to be growing 100 different varieties of food on the estate by Summer 2027.

Food

From one place, across four seasons.

Passionate about connecting soil health to gut friendly foods and human health, we produce nutritious food from both our market garden and the livestock raised on the farm. Through our friends@Blinsham community, we want to remind people of where food comes from, rooting everything we do in our 'someone & somewhere' approach to food production.

Place

A warm welcome.

A family estate opening its gates gently — to guests, visitors, neighbours, and friends of the farm. The aim is simply to make the farm economically stable, environmentally healthy, and socially connected again.

The Farm

Farming in partnership with nature.

We believe that farming in partnership with nature will deliver more diverse, more abundant and more nutritious food. From regeneratively grown potatoes, a market garden, orchard and nuttery following organic principles, to our herd of pasture fed South Devon cattle.

The Garden

Orchards, meadows, quiet corners.

The gardens unfold gently from the farmhouse — blossoming orchards and mown paths through long grass, re-wilded for biodiversity.

A living collection of conifers.

Blinsham is home to a pinetum of international repute — thousands of conifer species gathered, grown and tended on the estate.

Devon Landscapes

Between moor and sea.

Blinsham is located between the wild moorland scenery of Exmoor and Dartmoor, with the dramatic North Devon coastline and internationally renowned surfing beaches all within easy reach. We are surrounded by pretty Devon villages and just 5 mins drive from one of the Royal Horticultural Society's premier gardens at Rosemoor.

Historical Context

An estate of historical importance.

Mentioned in the Domesday Book, the existing house is Elizabethan, recorded as the primary dwelling in the hamlet of Blinsham. At the high point of the farm is an iron age fort which is also considered to be the likely site of the Battle of Cynwit in 878, where, against the odds, King Alfred's remnant army defeated the viking army led by their famous leader Ubbe Ragnarsson. This was a crucial battle that turned the fortunes of Wessex around, leading to the final defeat of the Viking army later that same year. The site is receiving much focus at present, with it being the focus of research for a book due to be published in 2026.
